Most people over the age of 35 only know of “fortnight” as in the definition of a day two weeks from today. Younger people know Fortnite as an online video game that has taken the world by storm. The video game Fortnite, which was released in 2017, has blown up and forever changed on-line video gaming . If you’re looking for a game to just take some time off your hands or keep you occupied while you’re bored or if you are looking for a game to actually have fun and enjoy playing, Fortnite is for you. Fortnite is a game that you can hop on by yourself and play for hours or it’s a perfect game to play with a friend or group of friends as a team.
Something about Fortnite that may not be well known or that people don’t appreciate as much as they should is that Fortnite is free, which is very rare. Most video games when they come cost around 60 dollars. Fortnite is a battle royal game, which consists of 100 people in one game and the last one to survive out of the 100 is the winner. One great thing about Fortnite players is that they range in ages from 8 to possibly 40 years old. I don’t think there is a video game out there that attracts such a wide age range of players that love the same video game. The game has the cartoon feeling for younger players, but also has the strategy, difficulty and entertainment for teens and adults. A big part of the game that is a slightly different than other shooting games is that you can build in the game. What I mean by that is that you can build walls, floors, stairs and pyramids using three different materials wood, stone and metal. These building materials can be obtained by harvesting or destroying objects within the game. The structures that you build can then be used to protect yourself from being shot or to just move around the map or get on top of things.
As I mentioned earlier Fortnite is free to play, but the crazy part is that in 2018 Epic Games made over 2.4 billion dollars from Fortnite. Fortnite is available on seven different gaming platforms: PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android. There is no other video game that is available on these many different platforms. The question is if Fortnite is free to play how does it make all its money? Fortnite has this currency in the game called V-Bucks. You can buy V-Bucks with real money. In the game there is a store called, the Item Shop and you use V-Bucks in the Item shop. In game purchases at the Item Shop can be made to enhance your gaming experience such as outfits, gliders, pickaxes and Emotes. It is debatable whether these items can provide an competitive advantage, but the purchase of B-Bucks by gamers is how Fortnite makes money.
Overall if I had to recommend Fortnite to new gamers, I would definitely recommend giving it a shot. It will be hard to just hop in with 100 other people and win. People have been playing this game for two years and have not mastered it. Initially it may be frustrating dying in every game shortly after you get into it. It may be better if you are playing the first time is to join with friends that play and play with some squads so you get used to the game. Once you start to get the hang of it I think most people that enjoy video games will enjoy Fortnite.
