First impressions can go all long way, especially in the business world. Your presentation and the way you dress could very well be how employers remember you. Not only do you have to be the part, but you have to look the part. Make yourself stand out with something other than a typical black or grey suit. Keep your outfit interesting, yet professional with some of these tips.

Keep in mind the dress code of the company. Note whether it’s business professional or business casual. You want to be able to fit in with the current employees.

Add a pop of color to a piece of clothing such as a blouse or blazer. Don’t be afraid to mix and match your pants with a colored blazer. But be careful not to wear colors too bright or bold. Also make sure your pants are fitted, not too loose and not too tight.

If you’re going for a business casual look, there are many options. You could wear a pencil skirt with a tucked in blouse and a cardigan or a fully buttoned up blouse with a pull over sweater. Another option is a blazer with a nice solid t-shirt tucked in with dress pants or kakis and a belt.

Accessories are a fun way to add to the outfit. I love a nice leather belt with a tucked in shirt. You could wear a colored belt or one with a simple design. A sleek leather tote bag is stylish and convenient. I like wearing a simple pair of earrings like pearls or diamonds plus my favorite, a watch. Watches are fun and professional. Other than these accessories, I don’t like to wear too much jewelry; it can take away from the outfit and look unprofessional.

When it comes to shoes, a classic pump is great but nothing too high. A nice flat is comfortable and cute. Or even a sleek pair of leather booties for a business casual look.

One of my fashion inspirations is Victoria Beckham. Her style is classic and sleek with a bit of edge.  The pictures below are prefect examples of stylish business wear. Many of the pieces you can find at an affordable price like a classic white blouse or a pair of nude flats. However, it’s never a bad idea to splurge on a classic item such as a blazer. It is absolutely worth investing in a nice blazer that will last you a lifetime. You could easily wear it with several different outfit options, casual or professional.

My last piece of advice is to dress the part and you’ll feel the part. Confidence is key.
