If you’re a college student, your daily routine probably looks like this: rushing from class to class, napping after class, writing a five-page paper that’s due the next day, studying for two exams, doing laundry, etc. etc. In the midst of all of this, you’ll probably get hungry and Campion might be closed, since it usually closes at 7pm. You might also not have time for or feel like going grocery shopping and cooking something. Even if you already ate dinner, you may get hungry again hours later. If you constantly find yourself facing this issue, continue reading to find some local restaurants that we tried and recommend to fuel your late-night munchies!
The Continental Midtown $$
The Continental is perfect for a late-night dinner. We tried the Baja Shrimp Tacos and the Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps, which both had great presentation and were delicious. The Continental has an amazing ambiance: basket swinging chairs, dimmed lighting, and modern decor. The restaurant is set up to appear as a modern take on a retro diner. The service was great and very quick when we went at 9:30pm. They are open until 11pm on weekdays and until 12am on Saturdays.
Larry’s Steaks $
As a student at Saint Joseph’s University, Larry’s will become your best friend and also your worst enemy. Larry’s is commonly known as a place where SJU students stuff their faces with cheesesteaks and/or the Mega Fries, after a long night of partying and illegal actions. Even though Larry’s is the perfect spot to go to when you have the “drunchies” (drunk munchies), it also comes in handy after a long night of studying and completing assignments. If you live on campus, Larry’s is a short walk away. If you are in desperate need for food and are craving that Belly-Filler or chicken tenders, definitely take a trip to Larry’s. Also, keep in mind that Larry’s does not help you achieve a healthy diet, but definitely helps you achieve a happy soul. They’re open until 2am Monday-Thursday and 2:30am on Fridays and Saturdays.
Landmark Americana $$
Landmark is great for when you’re craving a burger, wings, or cheesesteak egg rolls. Landmark has great bar-food and a friendly staff. Every Saturday, Landmark has an all you can eat wings special for $12.99 per person. We tried the cheesesteak egg rolls, wings, and the Loaded Chicken. Everything we tried was very good. Landmark accepts Hawk cards, which comes in handy while being on a student on a budget. Also, if you are just craving an appetizer or dessert, Landmark is a great option. They are open until 1am, but stop serving food around 11:30/12 am.
Even if you don’t have time to dine in, you can always call and place an order for pickup or delivery.
Insomnia Cookies $
Insomnia is perfect for when you’re craving something sweet. The closest location to SJU is in Manayunk. Insomnia has soft and warm cookies, ice cream, and mini jugs of milk. We love their Peanut Butter Chip, Snickerdoodle, and Double Chocolate Chunk cookies. Insomnia is often the spot we go to when we are stressed over school-work or just “in our bag” over drama within our social lives. By the way, Insomnia also has a cookie cake that says, “Sorry Your Day Sucked”; this is just one example of how Insomnia can cheer someone up! Insomnia is open until 3am everyday.
The Wendy’s on City Ave accepts Hawk cards and also tends to SJU students who don’t have cars! The amazing thing about the staff at this particular Wendy’s is that they allow people to walk up to the drive thru window, when the seating area of Wendy’s is closed. We love their burgers, chicken nuggets, and Frosties. Wendy’s is open until 3am, but only takes drive thru orders after 10pm. Some students have even called Ubers to Wendy’s, setting the two destinations as Wendy’s and their residence building (to return); this is just another way to order Wendy’s when they are drive thru only.
Others that are worth trying: McDonald’s, Dunkin’ Donuts, Taco Bell, Overbrook Pizza Shop, Overbrook Market, Shee Yuan, Not Your Average Joe’s, and TGI Friday’s.
