There’s a large variety of places throughout the city that caters to students and costs $10 or less. With midterms just right around the corner, it is refreshing to take a break from studying and venture off campus once in awhile!
ART SITES
- Magic Gardens: $7
Located on South Street, the Magic Gardens is an indoor and outdoor gallery of mosaics that extends across three city lots. The works were created by artist Isaiah Zagar; it is the largest piece created by the artist to date.
- Philadelphia Museum of Art: $1-10 (on first Sunday and Wednesday nights of the month)
Located on Benjamin Franklin Pkwy, the Philadelphia Museum of Art is a well known destination in the city. Outside the museum, you can take a photo with the Rocky statue and even get something to eat from the food trucks. The museum offers a wide variety of art from centuries past.
SIGHT SEEING
The observation deck at City Hall provides panoramic views of the Philadelphia skyline. City Hall, which is the largest municipal building in the United States, is located on John F. Kennedy Blvd.
The Eastern State Penitentiary is a former prison located on Fairmount Avenue. The building hosts a number of events, the most popular being “Terror Behind the Walls,” which is a Halloween themed haunted house. The prison once held many infamous criminals including Al Capone, whose cell is currently on display.
FAMOUS PHILLY FOOD
- Cheesesteaks: $4-8
Although every Philadelphian will tell you a different place to get “the best cheesesteak in the world,” you can’t really go wrong with any of the restaurants in the city. Directly off campus, Larry’s sells cheesesteaks that are affordable and convenient for students.
- Philly Pretzel Factory: $1-5
The iconic Philly pretzel is a great study break snack. The nearest Philly Pretzel Factory is located on City Ave.
SPORTS
- 76ers Game: $7-10 (Nosebleed seats)
Enjoy a basketball game at the Wells Fargo Center on S Broad Street.
- North Bowl: $10
Located on N 2nd Street, North Bowl offers a unique bowling experience. You can buy food, drinks, and hang out with you friends.
