Once you start, you won’t be able to stop!

College students are stressed out more than ever, using fidget toys may be the answer.

Fidget toys came out to give people with ADHD and anxiety something to assist their brain in focusing on classes or conversations, but anyone who is stressed or nervous could benefit from using a fidget toys. Scientific American states that “if you’ve ever clicked a ballpoint pen again and again, you’ve used a fidget toys.” Anything can be a fidget toy. You probably have fidgeted and used an item to help you fidget without realizing it.

Fundemonium said that fidget toys are able to help people who have trouble focusing or those who fidget to “relieve nervous energy, anxiety, or psychological stress.” These can be especially beneficial to college students, as we tend to have a lot of stress and anxiety towards classes and homework. Using fidget toys give your brain something to focus on subconsciously so you’re able to pay attention to the professor, your friends, or anything else.

Benefits:

  1. Takes your mind off the stress of classes
  2. Improves attention span and enhances learning
  3. Develops fine motor skills and other skills
  4. Helps people stay focused and in the moment

Natasha Tanic wrote on MyFirstApp in 2021, “Research shows that movement promotes learning because it requires the learner to use both hemispheres of the brain. Fidgets are helpful as these small muscle movements and sensory stimulation allows the child to use both the left and the right hemispheres, as learning is most effective when it involves the whole brain.”

Mindful  helps break down some of the counter points to having a fidget toy. “Focus is focus, whether you’re sitting quietly attending to the sensations of your breathing or concentrating on the felt characteristics of a spinner” One of the biggest counters to having a fidget toy is that they are distractions rather than a tool to help. They state that all of our brains work in different ways and some people may not enjoy having something in their hands, while others would love to have something to help keep them focused. For college students focus is huge especially if you have classes back to back. It can be easy to zone out or slack off for ten minutes in class, but these toys help alleviate that.
