During this quarantine, I have been blessed with the gift of having everyone if my family home including my sister who goes to the University of Alabama. So coming home from school, I was excited that we could all be together again, but it isn’t really the same. Both my parents have to work from home and my sister is a senior so she has a lot of final projects to finish. So most of the time I have to find things to do on my own to keep myself entertained. So here are some of the things I have been doing that you can do too to keep yourself busy this quarantine.
- Set up an old gaming system that you have
Recently, my sister and I found our old Wii’s, so we decided to set them up and start playing them again. Of course, we found all of our old games too so we have been playing Mario Kart, Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Animal Crossing, etc. We also realized that we had a PS4 just sitting downstairs that we thought was gone so my sister has been playing Grand Theft Auto on that. We also recently bought a Nintendo Switch to play the new Animal Crossing game which I highly recommend.
- Learn a new workout
Since I have a lot of time on my hands I thought I should start something new. I used to work out a lot when I was in high school but recently I haven’t as much. So I have been doing exercise routines that I find scrolling through Tik Tok, Chloe Ting on Youtube, and MadFit on Youtube.
- Learn a new way of cleaning your room
I have always been obsessed with trying to have my room be perfect and I have never been satisfied. But I recently came across Marie Kondo and her Kon Mari method. I purchased both of Marie’s books and I also watched the entirety of her Netflix show in one sitting. After that, I became a convert and fell in love with cleaning and organizing. After I cleaned my room the way she does, I now have three open drawers in my room and it no longer looks cluttered. If you don’t wanna buy the books the show is sufficient, I just really love how in the books she explains step by step why she does what she does.
- Make a calendar
As I saw the last month of school approaching, I realized I had a lot of due dates and nowhere to keep them and check daily. I know I can keep them on my phone and computer but those aren’t as effective for me because I like something I can actually write on. But even if you don’t need a calendar for schoolwork, make one with tiny goals for yourself so you are doing something every day rather than laying in bed all day watching Netflix.
- Start a new show
Over this quarantine, I have had the pleasure of binging many shows, so here are just some recommendations to get you started: Tiger King, Black Mirror, That 70’s Show, Tidying Up With Marie Kondo, You, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Freaks and Geeks, Skins, Euphoria, and finally On My Block.
- Make a shrine in your car
Originally in my car, I had a bunch of Jojo Siwa stickers like on the mirror thing you pull down when there is too much sun. But recently on Tik Tok, I saw people making shrines of different people like Harry Styles and Evan Peters. So I decided to make a shrine to my one true king Steven Hyde of That 70’s Show and the show itself in general. I have printed out pictures of Steven and put them in fun little places all over my car and also made stickers using my mom’s Cricut machine.
- Learn a new meal to cook
My mom does almost all of the cooking in the house all the time, so since I do nothing most of the day I have started helping her and learning new things to cook. When I was younger I literally burnt Totino’s pizza rolls and they fused with the plate, but now I can make real food.
- Recreate concerts you went to
Since concerts and all other events like them are canceled for a while, you are probably bored of listening to the same songs over and over again. So why not recreate some of your favorite concerts? There are plenty of videos online or if you took videos at a concert that you have that you can throw up on a projector outside one night and just vibe. Obviously, it isn’t the same but it is fun either way.
I hope this list of activities inspires you to try one or at least try something new that isn’t on this list. This is a really crappy situation but let’s make the most of it. Stay safe and healthy and keep practicing social distancing.
